On pins and needles

坐立不安

Pin是头很尖的别针、大头针，needle是缝补衣服用的针。不管是哪种针，坐在上面都会感到十分难受。

On pins and needles这一表达很容易让人联想到一个中文成语——如坐针毡，与坐立不安的意思也是极其相似的，都是形容人心神不定的样子。

英文中还有一个类似的说法，即have ants in one's pants(像裤子里钻进了蚂蚁)
